Crouching Nude – Jean Vyboud

The work bears the distinct graphite signature of French engraver and printmaker Jean Vyboud (1872-1944 ) in the lower right margin beneath the plate mark.
Vyboud was celebrated for his delicate drypoint, etching, and mezzotint nudes and genre scenes produced during the Belle Epoque and interwar periods.
Rendered in warm sanguine/sepia tones , the composition focuses on the classical contours of a crouching female nude. Minimalist shading and clean, supple outlines enhance the anatomical elegance and delicate light interplay across the subjects back.

During the early twentieth century, French printmaking experienced a renaissance in intimate figurative and boudoir scenes. So for collectors seeking refined, classical draftsmanship capturing sensual nudes , Vyboud was a master of his craft.
