Edwardo Forlenza 1861-1934
A late 19th C Italian school oil on canvas. Portrait study of a Sicilian beauty (signed verso).
Executed with academic realism combined with soft romantic lighting. The composition features rich , warm flesh tones, expressive brushwork in the blue head wrap and red drapery plus a lively engaging facial expression typical of Forlenza’s style.
Although the original ornate 19 th C composition frame has suffered slight damage the painting exhibits appropriate craquelure, surface oxidation, natural varnish aging plus period correct canvas and stretchers. The brushwork and pigment application align fully with a painting of this period.
Dimensions 22 cm x 26 cm
