The composition of this painting directly matches the famous 1836 work by British genre painter William Collins RA (1788-1847)
Collins specialised in idyllic, idealised depictions of rural English childhood and coastal scenes.
This unique version displays the quaint figure grouping of sunlit children against shaded woods and the fine detail in the expression and movement of the boy triumphantly seated atop a rustic gate is quintessentially Collins.
This super charming work is a 19 th century period oil manifestly evidenced by period craquelure and an original gilt wood frame.
